Introduction of instruments:

The primary purpose of the Building Environment and Performance Simulation Wind Tunnel is to simulate the climatic conditions of urban areas (including wind conditions, long-wave and short-wave radiation, precipitation, etc.). It can be used to investigate the impact of real-world urban climatic conditions on building energy consumption, thermal-moisture transfer in buildings, and indoor thermal-humidity environments. Through such research, integrated models for building energy consumption and thermal-moisture coupling transfer in building envelopes can be developed, taking urban climatic conditions comprehensively into account. This contributes to reducing building energy consumption and enhancing the comfort of indoor thermal-humidity environments.


The building environment and performance simulation wind tunnel adopts a direct-flow suction configuration. Except for the test section, which utilizes transparent glass, the remainder of the structure is fully steel-framed. The test section spans 2.00 m in length with a square cross-section of 1.00 m per side. Wind speeds within the test section range from 0.5 to 10 m/s (extendable to 0.4 m/s under stable external conditions). The velocity uniformity coefficient does not exceed 2.0%, the velocity stability coefficient does not exceed 1.5%, and the turbulence coefficient does not exceed 2.0%. and the flow deviation angle does not exceed 2.0°. A turntable with a diameter of approximately 0.80 m is installed at the rear section of the wind tunnel test section. It can support experimental models weighing up to 50 kg and still rotate 360° under motor drive while bearing the load. Beneath the wind tunnel turntable, a retractable grid accommodates rectangular specimens with dimensions ranging from 0.1 to 0.9 m in length and width (adjustable in 0.1 m increments) and 0.15 to 0.30 m in height (adjustable in 0.02 to 0.03 m increments), with a maximum mass of 120 kg. The wind tunnel test section incorporates a rain simulator capable of simulating precipitation processes ranging from moderate rain (0.4 mm/min) to heavy rain (4.0 mm/min).


Among the auxiliary equipment for the Building Environment and Performance Simulation Wind Tunnel: - Filters with ≥99.995% efficiency control harmful pollutants to standard limits. - Small-space temperature and humidity control units regulate the scaled building model within the test section to temperatures between 10–35 °C and relative humidity between 30%–90%. The full-time solar radiation simulation device provides shortwave radiation ranging from 0 to 800 W/m² to the wind tunnel test section. Its light source can rotate along tracks at multiple angles to simulate direct solar radiation under varying solar altitude angles, solar hour angles, and celestial latitude angles.
